چکیده
This paper explores flood-induced hydrodynamic and debris impact forces on masonry arch bridges using the numerical method smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). Masonry make up a significant proportion of bridge stock in many parts world, including UK US. Although is durable form, those spanning watercourses can be vulnerable to effects flooding. Where fast flood flows impinge superstructure, highly transient behavior observed, which lead violent interactions, especially where carried by flow. investigates pressures typical single-span subject action discrete floating debris. Different orientations relative span are considered. Results revealed that presence an order magnitude greater than conditions alone. Furthermore, influence orientation at was significant, with 90° resulting higher peak shorter duration compared 0°.

Displacement monitoring of a Long-Span Arch Railway Bridge using Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
There is an escalating demand for condition monitoring enhancement of transport infrastructures worldwide. Bridges are of vital importance in transportation infrastructure and need such monitoring. In this research, a non-contact vision-based technique called Digital Image Correlation (DIC) was used to calculate the bridge displacements. A high frame rate camera with 4K capability was used for ...
متن کاملDeflection Measurement of Masonry Arch Bridges with Tall Piers: Case Study of Shahbazan Bridge
A common practice for detailed assessment of masonry bridges is to use recorded deflection signature of mid-span of such structures due to predefined loading schemes. However, measuring the deflection of bridges with tall piers or those situated over deep valleys introduces certain difficulties, since common deflection-meters require a reference point relative to which the measureme...
متن کاملHydrodynamic fluctuation-induced forces in confined fluids.
We study thermal, fluctuation-induced hydrodynamic interaction forces in a classical, compressible, viscous fluid confined between two rigid, planar walls with no-slip boundary conditions. We calculate hydrodynamic fluctuations using the linearized, stochastic Navier-Stokes formalism of Landau and Lifshitz. The mean fluctuation-induced force acting on the fluid boundaries vanishes in this syste...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis and Parameter Identification on historical Masonry Arch Bridges
Close to reality computation of the serviceability and load-carrying capacity of old masonry arch bridges for rising live loads is a current problem. In Germany many of such roadand railway bridges exist. Some of the most important features for applicable numerical evaluation of masonry arch bridges are a realistic structural model (very often three dimensional models are necessary), the consid...
متن کاملFinite Element Modelling Tuned on Experimental Testing for the Structural Health Assessment of an Ancient Masonry Arch Bridge
This paper presents the structural health assessment of a railway ancient masonry arch bridge located in Bologna, Italy. A three-dimensional finite element model of the entire bridge, tuned on in situ experimental tests, has been used for the assessment. In particular, the finite element model has been employed to evaluate the structural health of the bridge both in its actual state and in the ...
